Biogeography of Selected Spring Endemics in Texas Interglacial-Drought Refugia with Unexpected Insights from a Spring-Dependent Nematode Parasite

چکیده
The contemporary distribution of crenobiontic endemics in central Texas is enigmatic because only some springs are occupied by crenobionts despite other unoccupied having seemingly suitable habitats. In the absence complete paleo-records, a cohesive and widely accepted explanation for this biogeography has eluded researchers many years. We suggest that data on species with obligate coevolution, such as parasites multiple hosts their life cycles, can help to fill intervening gaps paleo-record parasite indicates its cohabitated without interruption since arrival parasite. To test conjecture, we studied one endemic select few springs, Huffmanela huffmani. By studying intermediate host, geologic paleo-climatic records, performing lab experiments live animals, examining archived museum specimens definitive from 1950s, were able predictions about how H. huffmani became what it today. Our results corroborate narrative suggesting several severe droughts Wisconsin glaciations responsible sculpted present-day crenobionts.

Spatiotemporal Change of Spring Drought in Southwest China
A drought index analytical method based on a relative moisture index was used to evaluate meteorological data between 1958 and 2012 and study the temporal variation, spatial distribution, and sub-regional evolution characteristics of spring drought in Southwest China. The results showed a decreasing frequency of spring drought in the West Sichuan Plateau, Southwest Sichuan Upland, and Yunnan Pl...

Cyanobacteria, the blue green algae are one of the most diverse groups of Gram-negative photosynthetic prokaryotes widely distributed throughout the world. Cyanobacteria are known to produce a wide range of secondary metabolites with various biological actions. The aim of this study was to test extracts from various cyanobacteria isolated from Geno hot spring, Bandar Abbas (Iran) against a dive...

متن کاملInvestigating the Dynamics of a Ball-Spring Autobalancer in a Rotor with Non-Linear Bearings
Although the traditional automatic ball balancer (ABB) has numerous advantages, it has two major deficiencies, i.e., it has a limited balance stable region and it increases the vibration amplitude of the rotor at transient state. These deficiencies limit the applicability of ABBs. In this regard, a new type of ABB called “the Ball-spring autobalancer” has been proposed to resolve the mentioned ...
متن کاملIsolation and Characterization of Hyperthermophilic Nanobacteria from a Hot Spring in Ardabil, Iran
ABSTRACT Background and Objective: Nanobacteria are nanometer-scale particles with different shapes, which have been a subject of debate in modern microbiology. They belong to a proposed class of living organisms, specifically cell-walled microorganisms with a size much smaller than the generally accepted lower limit for life. Since some microorganisms are ...
